One of the most popular and versatile ways to
produce plastic parts is with injection molding. Injection molding
involves filling a mold (shaped in the reverse image of the part being
molded) with a meltable plastic. Once the plastic has cooled, the
mold is then opened and the part is ejected. The earliest injection
molding machines date back to the 30s. Plastic is widely used in
molding parts because of its ability to withstand high and low processing
temperatures, its weight to strength ratio, and its
recyleability into new
applications.
